AND SHIMS
Reliable protection and storage of bare drilling riser strings, both on- and offshore

Reliable protection and storage of bare drilling riser strings, both on- and offshore
Riser Fin protection systems are designed to safeguard bare risers and auxiliary lines from impact, while assisting alignment during handling and deployment.

Lankhorst Riser Fins are designed to protect bare drilling riser joints and auxiliary lines from impact, while guiding the riser through the riser tower during deployment and retrieval. Made of high-impact resistant, neutral buoyant thermoplastic, the fins duplicate the outer diameter of buoyant joints for smooth handling and minimal drag. The support ring system is developed to enable horizontal stacking of drilling risers up to 14 levels high.

Our patented Riser Fin Protection System consists of multiple fins per joint (typically 5–8), securely tensioned to the riser with Kevlar strapping and stainless steel tensioners. The fins replicate the OD of buoyant joints for consistent handling. Their open structure reduces drag, while robust thermoplastic material ensures durability in harsh environments from the Arctic to the tropics. All components are easy to install, transport, and reuse.
The standard length of a riser fin is 5ft, with a complete system consisting of multiple sets for full coverage of the joint. The Support Ring System is developed to enable drilling riser to be stacked horizontal up to 14 levels high. Guiding cones have been designed by Lankhorst to assist in the positioning and placement of the riser joints when stored vertically in the riser bay.
Riser Fins and Shims are designed for easy on- or offshore assembly. The use of Kevlar strapping and stainless-steel tensioners allows for secure fastening without special tooling. With all components under 30 kg installation is efficient and safe. The fins and shims are packed on standard wooden pallets and are easily stackable inside 20ft or 40ft ISO containers, ensuring optimum use of space and minimizing handling and transport costs.
The material used for production is selected based upon its compression and impact resistance in the diverse weathers conditions of the Arctic and the Gulf of Mexico, and anything in between. With a proven track record in major offshore projects worldwide, Lankhorst delivers reliable, high-performance, field-proven pipeline protection tailored to industry needs.
